Consistent terminology is a sign of a consistent company culture.

Make sure you are in control of your terms, so that management, employees and customers in your international markets know exactly what you mean.

Terminology management may mean any one or all of the following:

  • producing a list of terms from a given text and their equivalents in a foreign language or languages of choice
  • ensuring that all such terms are consistently applied in all your materials
  • updating the list of terms in close collaboration with you
  • if you already have a list of approved terms, making sure these are used in all translations consistently

Terminology is vital for a developed company culture, and the bigger the company, the more important it becomes to have a unified list of terms that all departments will use – across all markets where the company conducts its business.

How much time does it take to create a list of terms?

There are normally two to four terms in every 100 words of text, and on average it takes about ten minutes to research a term. Sometimes it may take hours or days for a single term, but such instances are rare.

When developing a new list of terms from your company documents or updating an existing one, we would be interfacing with the person appointed by you and send them the list in a tabular format (normally, an Excel sheet). 

Once the terms have been approved, we will include them in the list of approved terms.
